What is Work from Home?

Work from home is when an organization allows its employees to complete and submit all their office tasks from home. This kind of work arrangement is usually temporary; however, it can also be permanent in some cases. This is typically the case when the employee resides too far away from the office and commuting to work every day is impossible or too costly.

Moreover, not all kinds of employees can avail of the work from home option. For example, employees who need to be on-site to perform their tasks, such as construction workers or doctors, do not get work from home arrangements.

A Study By Stanford University

Stanford University conducted a research study to see whether work from home arrangements can make an employee more productive or not. They conducted their study on 16,000 workers over a period of almost nine months.

Their results concluded that work from home employees were almost 13% more productive than usual. Moreover, employers also reported higher levels of work satisfaction.

Employee Reviews

In general, employees worldwide have offered mixed reviews regarding their work from home productivity. However, some employees report being far more productive when working from the comfort of their homes. They can create a more suitable environment for themselves without worrying about dressing or acting a certain way.

On the other hand, some employees argue that their productivity decreases when required to work from home. This is because they are unable to remain focused and end up getting less work done due to distractions that come with being at home.

Final Thoughts

Working from home is a great option that allows many people, who otherwise would struggle with getting to work, to earn a good honest living. Reports suggest that employee productivity mostly increases when working from home; however, this is not the case for all employees.
