Challenges of Small Enterprises

Owning a business is a tough job. There are specifically some challengeswhich small enterprisesface. Some of these are mentioned below:

1. Health Care

Your workers’ health is definitely important but increased healthcare costs make it difficult to handle the finances. It’s often the business owners that receive the blow of this.

2. Government Regulations

There are numerous government regulations which get tighter over time. One of these regulations deals with the environment. This could include playing a part in removing pollutants like smog or gas. It is a challenge for business owners who don’t have the proper environmental know-how. Advertising regulations also affect your business. Here, honesty is the best policy.

3. The Economy

The state of the economy affects small enterprises. If the economy suffers, so does the business. The uncertainty of the economy’s condition keeps them from taking unnecessary risks.

4. Tax Compliance

If your small business is home-based then home office deductions are crucial for making high profits. Regulations concerning record keeping are time-consuming and frustrating. Tax compliance can be tough and can impact your profits significantly, especially if you aren’t making enough as it is.

5. Client Dependence

If only one client makes up for most of your income, then you are more of an independent contractor than a business owner. This can cause certain problems. Diversifying one’s client base is crucial to growing business but it is not an easy task. For many small businesses, having a client who pays on time is enough so they often stick to the clients they have. This is, unfortunately, a long-term handicap. The only way this can work is if your client has a long-term need for your product or service. However, having a diversified client base is better for business.

6. Money Management

Having sufficient money to cover your expenses is necessary for every business. To avoid the problem of less capital, small enterpriseshave to make sure they are heavily capitalized or have an extra source of income. That is why small-business owners usually start off with building a business and working a job simultaneously. Although it is possible to handle the finances on your own, getting professional help may be a good idea.

7. Balancing Growth and Quality

Sometimes, the issues that growth brings outweigh the benefits. Whether it’s a product or a service, businesses have to sacrifice to grow. This could mean not being able to handle every client relationship personally. This might indeed compromise quality, that is why businesses have to work to balance their growth and quality. It’s up to the business owner to find a way to grow the business without hurting its image.

Challenges should be seen as opportunities to better the business and work towards growth. All the challengesmentioned above can be solved with persistence and good business acumen.
